foursquare: Can we interest you in a new version of the BlackBerry app? → foursquare.tumblr.com

Hey all -

We’re working 100 mph over here this week! Can we interest you in an update to foursquare for BlackBerry?

If you already have the BlackBerry app installed, just open it up and it should automatically update to our newest version (v1.5.5).

If you haven’t downloaded the BlackBerry app…

“So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month? Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet—which there isn’t—the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.” —The Internet? Bah! by Clifford Stoll, Newsweek (1996)

Catan we all just get along?

youngmanhattanite:

Nobody in social media is actually your friend. They’re just your “friend.”

To a large extent this is disappointingly true. I have social media “friends” that’s that I’ve known for a year+, with both parties making empty promises to meet up outside of work functions. Meanwhile more tech-oriented friends, we consistently meetup outside of work.

Social media friends, can’t we all just promise to play board games on a Saturday night, drink beer and get along?

“

A lesson I have learned the hard way is that we aren’t smart enough. Even the most brilliant programmers routinely make stupid mistakes. Not just typos, but basic design errors that back the code into a corner, and in retrospect should have been obvious. The human mind can not grasp the complexity of a moderately sized program, much less the monster systems we build today.

…Beauty is an idealistic fantasy: what really matters is the quality of the never ending conversation between programmer and code, as each learns from and adapts to the other. Beauty is not a sufficient basis for a happy marriage.

We never talked about it in medical school, but I’m pretty sure that if you wear someone’s skin, you gain all their powers and abilities.  Anyways, hope you enjoy today’s wacky new cartoon.
